Gender Reveal vs. Baby Shower
Hello everyone! I hope that everyone is doing great and continuing to practice social distancing. My family and I are hanging in there and are hoping to get back to some type of normalcy soon. Can you imagine being in a home with teenage and pre-teen aged boys 24hrs a days for 3 months? LOL, I am learning so much about each of them during this time.
Yesterday was our first gender reveal! It was amazing, especially since our client was my younger cousin. (smile) She and her sister reached out to us to assist with planning and decor for her “He or She? What will baby bee?” themed reveal. I was excited! Yellow, gold, black and white. Bumble bees and honey. I was so thrilled with their theme choice.
While planning the reveal, I was asked on multiple occasions, “What is the difference between a gender reveal vs. a baby shower? Do I bring a gift?” I thought I would take time to discuss the differences in this blog post.
A gender reveal is a celebration to reveal the gender of the baby to be. The parents can choose to use a gender reveal to not only announce the gender to immediate family and friends, but also themselves. In yesterdays gender reveal, the parent’s to be opted out of knowing their baby’s gender until the reveal. I was designated as a top secret agent, along with auntie and grandma to be, to not reveal the results.
Immediate family typically includes baby’s siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Some may opt to invite additional family members, whereas some may opt to only include the baby’s siblings and grandparents. Gender reveals are a more intimate occasion than a baby shower, therefore the guest list is a lot smaller than one for a baby shower.
A baby shower is a celebration where family and friends shower the mom to be with gifts for the baby. Traditionally, baby showers are held with female family members and friends. In today’s time, baby showers are co-ed and are held with both female and male family members and friends.
Gifts, typically, are not given at a gender reveal.
Gifts are given at a baby shower.
Gender reveals are typically always planned by the parent’s to be.
Baby showers are typically planned by someone other than the parent’s to be such as a best friend, godparent, grandparent, etc.
Gender reveals are optional. Most expecting parents opt for a baby shower only, but gender reveals are becoming more popular especially with COVID-19. It’s a fun and exciting way for expectant parents to announce their baby’s gender to those near and far via social media.
